April is approaching in the next week. Hopefully leaving the Beast from the East and all the horrible dull days behind, to a warm and sunny spring.

We have compiled a list of ‘What’s on in April’ this year. Liverpool is a bustling city with so much going on in the world of food, theatre, music etc. Even if you have not had the thought of visiting this fantastic city here is an insight of what’s happening in April to potentially change your mind.

Liverpool has so much to see from attractions and shows to historical features and art.

Chinas First Emperor and The Terracotta Warriors:

Date: 9 February 2018 - 28 October 2018

You may have heard about the famous Terracotta Warriors, if not…The terra-cotta army, as it is known, is part of an elaborate mausoleum created to accompany the first emperor of China into the afterlife, according to archaeologists. The exhibition has been moved from London to Liverpool for this year only. It’s generated a lot of attention across the country and especially locally, with people travelling across the country to visit. It coincides with the China Dream season (Feb-October) that Liverpool are celebrating this year (the year of the dog and the year of Chinese culture here in Liverpool!).

Urban Splash are a real-estate business based in Liverpool and have won over 40 RIBA Awards in their first 25 years of buisness. Their rewards have covered a wide spectrum: from small projects to the Stirling Prize Shortlist, Urban Splash are a well-known, maverick name in the industry of Architecture.

This exhibition explores 25 years of Urban Splash's RIBA Award winning projects at Liverpool’s very own RIBA North located on the waterfront.

Motown’s Greatest Hits – How Sweet It Is:

Date: 6th April 2018

@ Liverpool Empire Theatre, Lime Street, Liverpool, Merseyside, L1 1JE This live show will combine first class music together with incredible choreography, and an amazing band. Truly outstanding, the best MOTOWN experience. The show will be featuring songs from legendary artistes such as Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, Lionel Richie, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, The Isley Brothers and more.

Gin Party At Old Christchurch:

Date: 6th April 2018 – 7th April 2018

This is the first Gin Party the Old Christchurch has launched, and it’s opening this Spring.

You can expect a range of boutique gins as well as live music, sure to bring an amazing atmosphere when it arrives. Not only is gin available but food too, all from local businesses.

“Old Christchurch was built in 1891-99 and therefore doesn't have all the mod cons for heating. There are infrared heaters throughout the church, however please make sure you wrap up warm just in case. The only thing we want cold at this festival is the gin!” – Organisers.

Ticket prices are £9 that includes your entry, all the entertainment for the night, a souvenir glass and a gin programme.

Gregory Porter

Gregory Porter is an Award-winning jazz/soul singer and announced a return to the UK for a tour. He’s sold out venues around the world and has achieved international recognition and acclaim with two Grammy winning albums.

It’s most certainly an un-missable show at Liverpool’s Empire Theatre!

Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella:

New Adventures are returning after their sold-out and huge success of double award-winning The Red Shoes, with one of their popular and beloved productions that is Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella. The show is about an expressive love story that is set in London during World War 2.

The reviews for this production have hit the roof with positive words. You’ll be able to watch it from the 10th of April until the 14th of April. Book your tickets before it sells out.

The Randox Health Grand National Festival 2018:

Dates: 12th-14th March 2018

The Grand National is a bustling event, which grips so many peoples attention every year. The event hits the media, television and towns across the country and creates such a buzzing atmosphere at the Aintree Racecourse from those attending.

History has been written at the grounds from legendary runners and riders who have triumphed in the event. From the legendary triple-winning success of Red Rum, to Many Clouds and One For Arthur who have been successful recently.

Every year new stories are generated, and shared. With 600 million people watching live on television and 200-300million attending. 40 horses and jockeys will line up and race the famous grounds.

Hairspray, the smash hit musical comedy that hit our screens back in 2007 is coming to venues across the UK in a live musical. This production is guaranteed to make your week!

If you’re unaware of the story of Hairspray, it’s based in Baltimore, USA. Taking you back to the 60’s from the props to the clothing. Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair, and an extremely bigger heart, is on track to follow her dreams and dance herself onto national TV. The production is all about her journey and what happens. The show features songs such as Welcome To The 60’s, You Can’t Stop The Beat, The Nicest Kids in Town and so many exciting songs! The tickets are available, book them before they’re gone!

Michael McIntyre:

Date: 27-28 April 2018

@ Echo Arena, Kings Dock St, Liverpool L3 4FP

Michael McIntyre, one of the UKs most loved comedians, is coming to Liverpool in April and has added an extra date due to the high demand. The likely hood that you’ve seen him on screens is probably very high, this is your chance to see the man himself at a live show. Visit the Echo Arenas website for ticket information.

Amir Khan Back To Business:

Date: 21 April 2018

For all boxing fans this is an absolute treat! Amir Khan, known for his famous boxing matches and in recent months his memorable strawberry and cream gate on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity.

Amir hasn’t boxed since 2016 where he played against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez where he was knocked out the ring in Las Vegas.

His return will face Phil Lo Greco at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on 21 April live on Sky Sports if you can’t get tickets.

Ticket limit (6 per person).

Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
